This exercise was an opportunity to tangibly gauge our growth by the course midpoint. “Secondary animation” of trails, impact debris, and framing devices were the primary techniques in this chance to apply what was learned and animate a second version of the course’s first assignment.

Week 6
Ministry of Eye Control
Drafting storyboards became a staple in thoroughly and effectively ideating a scene sequence.
This exercises was focused on ‘eye trace’. This is a technique to guide the viewer where and when to look at predetermined points-of-focus on screen. To do so properly, there was a great emphasis on the need for precision to direct attention with intent rather than chance.
‘Precision’ is a value that resonates with me personally, so I leaned in a lot to this exercise. Three separate audio samples were also provided to color our project. I like to practice audio mixing to broaden my motion design.
This exercise pivoted 180-degrees to stop-motion animation. Deliberately fracturing smooth actions and movements required a surprisingly greater emphasis of precision than before.
Week 7
Scrapbook Elvis
This exercise revolved around reinforcing movements. Pushing and pulling the scenes to support connectivity between main narrative action.
This exercise also marked a turning point in the complexity of each following assignment. All of the prior techniques were now to be used for voice over narrative and concept driven motion spots. Series of pre-designed boards were provided to animate.

Below is a retrospective of assignments within my School of Motion Animation Bootcamp fall enrollment (highly recommend). Each assignment showcases a secondary skill that was unique to each brief, whether music editing, storyboarding, or comedic spacing. These case study examples are speculative media and clients for educational purposes.
